Smartphone Bookings for Mobile Travel Apps & Websites
This is an addition to apps vs. websites and Resources at SmartphoneTraveller. Mobile app and web tools and options are expanding rapidly and I wanted to offer some respective and classification on Mobile development as it relates to hotels and tourism. As I researched what tool were available to develop Smartphone Apps and Mobile websites it became clear that Travel is very different and the general purpose tools do not fit into a tourism strategy. More is said on this in the following Hub; Strategies for Mobile Tourism.
It is, however, still important to understand what is available and to try to put it into perspective. In doing this I came across Jadersons Hub.
Jaderson covers all the general tools of the trade along with a good outline of the pros and cons of native iPhone apps vs Web apps. We touched on this in our past Hub on Apps vs Webs (above). Janderson is concise and thoughtful. He has organized the tools into native apps and web apps for iPhone Smartphones and provides a good definition and evaluation of the different mlobile strategies. He lists many excellent resources. His articles are well worth reading and he is a travel consultant!
My conclusion is that general tools are not strategic
for Hotels and Tourism
If you are a hotel or tourism operator my
advice is DO NOT spend time working with mobile tools that are not integrated with Tourism products, services and markets!
Tourism is about Bookings and Travel Marketing is about promoting your brand and your products in very specialised tourism channels that are amongst the most complex and integrated business systems in the world. Hoteliers and Tourism operators must look to their Tourism partners and Travel technology companies who supply Web booking engines and Integrated solutions; companies like TravelClick, Visergy and AXSES. These companies offer integrated solutions for guest services, Tourism marketing, Bookings and Reservations. Smartphone mobiles are relatively new to tourism and not many Tourism suppliers have got it all together. They are are working on it, and if you are a Hotel or Travel supplier these are the solutions you should evaluate. A solution that is not a Tourism solution is not in your long-term best interest.
