Old Habits Die Hard

In our Hub a few weeks back we took issue with the closed approach of Apple's iPhone versus the anDroid lamenting: "Jobs not done well". That is Steve Jobs of Apple who by all means appears to have done very well. But we were talking about done well for us the consumer in the future.

Apples history is one of exceptional invention and exceptional products. The Apple computer was the just the best device of its time on every count. Its operating system was the best. Then along came the MAC - even better that the best and everyone emulated it.

Then this odd thing happened, while Microsoft embraced the developers with seemingly an open attitude to working with the trade, Apple closed its ranks and went it all alone. 3rd party developers just found it easier and more rewarding to build applications for the Microsoft PC.

The Invisible army

History showed us that "closed" was not a good strategy.The Apple computer flourished and faded, while Microsoft OS took off. Things have changed and Apple is a contender again, buoyed by Apples iPod success and its perception for innovation and performance. But the point is that The Apple PC failed to be the dominant device because it was not an open system and it did not have an entire industry of developers as MS did.

The computer industry is full of eager and innovation developers and consumers. Give them new technology and they will develop and expand it beyond your wildest dreams. This is the engine of invention. It is the invisible army that propelled the computer industry forward: Developing applications for Hotels and Tourism marketing and for every profession, trade, management and production worker in all industries

The Results are in - an Andriod Win

A current survey By Garner show Android has overtaken Apple iOS and Now is at the #3 stop in the world and #1 in the USA. Adobe predicts that Flash will be supported in 53 per cent of the more than 300 million Smartphones expected to ship in 2012.

Its simply a force of numbers. There are over 40 manufactures using Android and its open to every developer and most development platforms. How can a single company match that for sheer endevour and creativity. It Cant - Is history to repeat Itself! Will iPhone shrink now that a more open market has caught up?
